Description
Ajrakh print set is a traditional block printing technique that originated in the Kutch region of Gujarat, India. It is a labor-intensive process that involves multiple stages of printing and dyeing to create intricate and vibrant patterns on fabric. The word "Ajrakh" is derived from the Arabic word "Azrak," which means blue, and refers to the deep blue color that is commonly used in this printing technique. The process of creating Ajrakh prints starts with preparing the fabric, which is usually a natural fiber such as cotton or silk. The fabric is washed and then soaked in a mixture of water and a natural mordant such as alum to help the dyes adhere to the fabric. After this, the fabric is spread out in the sun to dry. Next, the fabric is dyed in a base color, which is usually red or indigo blue. The fabric is then printed with intricate designs using wooden blocks carved with traditional patterns.
