1. How to Drape a Saree?
A graceful drape can immensely enhance the overall effect of a saree. Here are a few tips on wearing silk.
- On formal occasions & at work, it makes better sense to pin up the saree, which makes it not only manageable but helps you look smart as well.
- At functions, pin up the tip of the saree and let the rest fall on your hand for a graceful look.
- Pinning up at the back of the shoulder will conceal the pin and also keep the saree intact.
- Avoid wearing a flared petticoat.
- Make sure starched sarees, especially cotton and tissue, are ironed properly. The pleats also should be carefully pressed and shaped while draping
Watch the below video on how to drape a saree
Please call our Yes!poho Guest Experience Management Team (GEM) who will be able to assist in selecting the best Silk Saree that suits your taste and preference. Our GEM is available for your 24 hours a day – 365 days a year.

2. How do I Maintain Silk?
To retain the glory of silk, a great deal of meticulousness is required at every stage. With proper care, silk can be well-maintained for years together.
Washing
- Do not use soap for the first three washes. Gently rinse in plain cold water.
- For the subsequent washes, use a mild detergent.
- Wash the Pallu, border and body separately.
- Avoid washing the saree with inferior quality material or bright colors.
- You can use a protein shampoo with warm/cold water. The shampoo protein will feed the protein in the silk.
- Avoid using chemicals – these may damage and reduce the lifespan of the silk.
- Do not brush or lash the silk saree; it might lead to tearing the zari.
- Avoid twisting or wringing the silk.
- Do not bundle and keep wet for long durations.
Drying
- After washing, the saree must be dried immediately.
- First, roll the saree in a dry towel to remove the excess moisture.
- Then, hang it on to a padded hanger.
- Ensure that the silk saree is out of direct sunlight.
Dry-Cleaning
- In dry-cleaning, fluids are used to remove stains from the fabric.
- The fluids contain little or no water and do not penetrate the fibre as water does.
- Dry-cleaning is the best way to care for silk, since the solvents used do not affect silk.
- The following points must be kept in mind when taking your silk clothes to the dry-cleaner
Ironing
- While pressing, keep the iron in medium heat only.
- Press silk while it is still damp with a warm iron, or use a steam iron.
- Take special care to iron starched material.
Packing / Placement
- The saree should be stored in a cool, dry place.
- Unfold your silk sarees and change the folding preferably every month.
- All silk outfits must be wrapped in muslin cloth
- Ensure minimal friction between the cloth and the embroidery when you fold embroidered outfits.
- Silk outfits are best maintained if kept in a hanging position.
- For wrinkle-free outfits, delicate handling is required.
Dealing with Stains
- Firstly, wash with cold water immediately.
- For hard stains, soak the stained area with petrol and brush with a soft cloth.
- Stained silk must be dry-cleaned as soon as possible.
- By rubbing acetone on the area, nail polish stains can be removed.
- For lipstick stains, use dry-cleaning fluids, followed by washing soap and water.
- Greasy stains can be removed by dabbing talc. Once this is done, the talc should be brushed off and stain remover applied. The stain can then be washed off in the hottest water possible.
- For treating food stains like milk, ice-cream, chocolate, gravy, etc., use a dry-clean solvent. By applying detergent and then washing off with cold water, the protein part of the stain can be removed. After using a stain remover, it should be washed off in hot water.
- Protein stains like blood, deodorant, egg, meat juices and perspiration can be cleared with detergent. They should be soaked in cool water and laundered. If they persist, try rubbing a mixture of a few drops of Nh2 with hydrogen peroxide.
3. What is a Zari?
Zari or Zari Work as it is known, is an intricate art of weaving threads made of fine gold or silver. These threads are further woven into fabrics, primarily made of silk to create intricate patterns. The designs are so exquisite that apart from the monetary value attached to these threads, the fabric also gets an overall rich & a beautiful look. The art of Zari has been associated with the Aristocratic & Royal Persona in India for a long time. It is one of the most famous & elaborate techniques in metal embroidery. For long, Zari has been an art associated with the aristocratic and royal persona in India. In Persian, the art is known by the term – Zardozi.
Origin and History of Zari Work
It is believed that the word Zari originated in a village by the same name in
ancient Persia (Iran of today) where artisans used the skill of weaving thin threads of
gold and silver onto fine fabrics of silk. The art was brought to India by Persian
migrants between 1700-1100 BC – the period of Rig Veda. However, zari work flourished
during the Mughal era under the patronage of Emperor Akbar.
The Making
Zari is produced by twisting a flattened metallic strip made from pure gold,
silver or a metallic polyester film around a yarn made of silk, cotton, polyester etc.
These zari threads are processed to increase the brightness of gold plating, giving it
an aesthetic look.
4. What are the types of Zari?
Zari is categorized into 2 major categories types:
1. Real Zari: It is made of pure gold & silver. Due to the
high cost of pure gold and silver, Real Zari is sought after by the very rich and
discerning. While Clothes with pure Zari are expensive, it does have resale value.
2. Tested Zari: This type of Zari can be further subclassified as –
• Imitation Zari: It is made of silver or gold electroplated (thinly) copper wire. Imitation Zari was used as a replacement for silver. However, with increasing prices of copper too, even Imitation Zari is produced in a rather limited way. Imitation Zari can also be called as 1gram gold or 1 gram silver depending on how much gold or silver is electroplated on the copper wire.
• Metallic Zari: It is made of slitted polyester metallized
film. Metallic Zari is the work which is in vogue as it weighs quite lightly compared to
pure gold and silver or for that matter copper. It is also affordable and more durable
compared to Real Zari and Imitation Zari.
Clothes with Zari are generally made-to-order in case of Real Zari or Imitation Zari,
whereas Metallic Zari can be bought off the shelf. Clothes with pure Zari are expensive,
it does have resale value, while fabrics with Tested Zari do not carry any resale value.
5. How to Maintain Saree with Zari?
Zari contains the weaves of gold and silver. The metal, specially the silver weaves react to the atmospheric air and looks dull & old.
• To maintain its shine, the best thing is to wrap them in soft cotton or a
muslin dhoti. This prevents them from any reaction.
• To avoid the work or Zari getting pulled by your jewelry, stitch a net behind it so
the knots and weaves don’t loosen up.
• Always maintain washed and unwashed Zari sarees separately.
• Never wrap used sarees immediately after change, spread them for a
few hours so that the sweat dries and then hang them in hangers for further use.
• Dry cleaning is best for Zari sarees but if you plan to wash them, wash in a
mild soap water, rinse well and dry it in shade immediately.
• For the fine cosmetic or food stains, use a soft bristled toothbrush on the sequins
and beads to get rid of them. Wiping the embroidery or sequins with a damp cloth and
drying them under fan will maintain the new look forever.
• Never wrap the heavy Zari blouse with the sarees, always keep them separately on
hangers. Every once in a week you can hang dry them in sun to keep clean (away from
fungus) for long.

To weave a Kanchipuram sari three shuttles are used. While the weaver works on the right side, his aide works on the left side shuttle. The border color and design are usually quite different from the body. Pallu is first separately woven and then delicately joined to the saree. The joint is woven so strongly that even if the sarees tears, the border will not detach. That differentiates the these sarees from the rest. Kanchipuram sarees are distinguished by their wide contrast borders. Temple borders, checks, stripes and floral (buttas) are traditional designs found on a Kanchipuram sarees. Linen is one of the oldest fabrics and the earliest evidence of it being manufactured dates back to Egypt, approximately 4,000 years ago. Clothes made from this fabric were worn by the wealthier members of society as it is slightly harder to manufacture linen when compared to the manufacturing of other fibers and fabrics. It is through trade that linen eventually reached Ireland, where one of the most systematized means to actually produce flax have been documented. Once this fabric was filtered into England, it came to India during the British Rule.
• *Making of Linen*: Linen is basically a bast fiber, which means that this is a fiber that is obtained from the inner section of the bark of the plant (also known as the phloem) which is why is has superior tensile strength when compared to other fabrics. The fibers are then pulled away from the stalk and this is done through a process known as “Retting”, wherein bacteria is used to decompose the natural pectin that acts as an adhesive and binds the fibers together. After this, the stalks are submitted to another procedure called “Scutching”, in which all the wooden portions present in the stalk is removed completely by crushing the stalks between metal rollers. The fibers are then separated from the mass. Finally, the fiber undergoes “Heckling” process in which the fibers are basically separated from each other with the help of a comb and spun into yarn.
• The fabric is extremely popular as it is extremely cool and makes it very conformable
to wear during hot summer days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/linen

ratan chokh (gem-eyed), benki (spiral), tara (star), kalka (paisley) and phool (flower).
Printed, hand-painted and embroidered patterns are also used to get a larger variety of
designs
Weaving Technique
Bundles of cotton threads coming from the mills are first washed to remove any
chemicals, sun-dried, bleached, again dried, and then dipped in boiling coloured water
to dye them. They are then starched and processed some more to make them finer and
stronger. The threads are wound on bamboo drums to feed them into the loom for
weaving.
Every tant saree is characterized by the design on its border, pallav and body. These
designs are drawn by an artist and transcribed onto soft cardboards by perforating them
which are then suspended from the loom. Now all is in place for the weaving to begin.
The simplest of tant sarees take about 10-12 hours to weave. More intricate designs
could even take 5-6 days to complete a saree.
Types – Tant sarees can be classified based on the region where they are
woven, or the motifs depicted on the sarees. The major regions of tant production in
West Bengal today are:
o Fulia and Shantipur (in Nadia): Combining the weaving styles of the original Shantipur
weavers and the migrant weavers from Tangail who settled in Fulia, this region has
developed the “Fulia Tangail” style of weaving and produces among the best quality tant
sarees today. These tants are soft and fine in texture, come in vibrant colours and have
large, intricately woven motifs.
o Dhaniakhali (or Dhonekhali in Hooghly): Tant sarees from this region are of good
quality, mainly come in pastel shades and have striped patterns and fewer motifs.
o Begampur (in Hooghly): Begampur specializes in loosely woven, light-weight and
translucent sarees in deep, bright colours.
o Kalna (in Burdwan): Tants from this region are based on the Tangail style of
weaving.
o Atpur (in Hooghly): This town was known for producing coarser sarees and dhotis for
everyday wear. The term “Atpoure” which means “common wear” denotes the Bengali style of
wearing sarees which used to be the traditional way of draping for women of this region.
Maintenance – It is recommended that before the first wash, tant sarees should be soaked briefly in warm water mixed with rock salt, to prevent the saree from bleeding colour during subsequent washes. Washing with a mild detergent, followed by starching and then hanging them to dry in a shaded area will ensure the longevity of these cotton sarees.

15. What is Dhakai Jamdani Saree?
• Dhakai Jamdani – Jamdani is one of the finest muslin textiles of Bengal, produced in South Rupshi of Narayanganj district in Bangladesh for centuries. amdani was originally known as Dhakai named after the city of Dhaka, one of many ancient textile weaving centers in Bengal region.
• Weaving- Whether figured or flowered, jamdani is a woven fabric in
cotton, and it is undoubtedly one of the varieties of the finest muslin. It has been
spoken of as the most artistic textile of the Bangladeshi weaver. They are traditionally
woven around Dhaka, Bangladesh, and on the brocade loom. This is a supplementary weft
technique of weaving, where the artistic motifs are produced by a non-structural weft,
in addition to the standard weft that holds the warp threads together. The standard weft
creates a fine, sheer fabric while the supplementary weft with thicker threads adds the
intricate patterns to it. Each supplementary weft motif is added separately by hand by
interlacing the weft threads into the warp with fine bamboo sticks using individual
spools of thread. The result is a myriad of vibrant patterns that appear to float on a
shimmering surface. What’s remarkable in this weaving technique is that the pattern is
not sketched or outlined on the fabric. Instead, it is drawn on a graph paper and placed
underneath the warp. Jamdani is a fine muslin cloth on which decorative motifs are woven
on the loom, typically in grey and white. Often a mixture of cotton and gold thread
were/was used.
Bengali women like to wear these sarees in all sorts of events. Intricate detailing and
elaborated ornate design are the distinctive features of this saree. Beside that floral
motif and handwoven geometrical shapes crafted by the weavers make this saree more
alluring which gives you a perfect ethnic look. As these sarees are made up of pure
cotton fabrics, it provides comfort and a classy look. Here you can find exclusive
Dhakai jamdani Sarees with vibrant colors.
Maintenance – It is recommended that before the first wash, Dhakai
sarees should be soaked briefly in warm water mixed with rock salt, to prevent the saree
from bleeding colour during subsequent washes. Washing with a mild detergent, followed
by starching and then hanging them to dry in a shaded area will ensure the longevity of
these cotton sarees

Cosmetics and Skin Care Information and Safety
1. Do independent experts research and evaluate cosmetic safety?
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel is an independent, non-profit scientific body that was launched in 1976 with support of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) to assess the safety of ingredients used in cosmetics in the U.S. The CIR Expert Panel consists of world-renowned scientists and physicians who have been publicly nominated by consumer, scientific and medical groups, government agencies, and industry. Members of the Panel must meet (and actually exceed) the conflict of interest requirements regarding financial interests as special non-government advisory experts to FDA.
The CIR thoroughly reviews and assesses the safety of ingredients used in cosmetics in an open, unbiased, and expert manner and publishes the results of its work in peer-reviewed scientific literature. FDA, CFA and the Personal Care Products Council provide non-voting liaisons to the Panel and are actively involved in the comment and discussion process
2. Is the safety of a cosmetic product evaluated once it hits the market?
Yes. Once a product is marketed companies monitor consumer use and investigate all new scientific information. Companies also collaborate with external scientists and regulatory agencies on new safety methods. As science advances and consumers’ preferences change, the industry continually innovates to ensure millions of families have the safest, highest quality products that help enrich their lives.
For more detailed information on the processes we use to affirm the safety of our products, click here.
3. What voluntary steps are cosmetic manufacturers taking to provide cosmetic safety and protect consumers?
Nothing is more important to the cosmetic and personal care products companies than the safety of the families who use our products. We are committed to upholding strict FDA cosmetic regulations as required by the U.S. Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). Cosmetic companies take their safety responsibility very seriously and often surpass the requirements of the law with additional consumer safety measures.Over the years, cosmetic and personal care products companies have gone beyond the requirements of the law to make available additional safety information and technical resources. Industry programs established to support the FDA’s regulatory work include:
- The CIR: Cosmetic Ingredient Review
- Cosmetics Industry Consumer Commitment Code
- The Voluntary Cosmetic Registration Program
- Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary
4. What voluntary steps are cosmetic manufacturers taking to provide cosmetic safety and protect consumers?
The federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) requires that every cosmetic product and its individual ingredients be substantiated for safety before going to market and that product labeling be truthful and not misleading. Cosmetic manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that products comply with the law before they are marketed. This process includes analyzing a cosmetic ingredient’s testing and safety data. If the manufacturer is unable to substantiate the safety of a product, the law requires the product to carry a conspicuous warning stating that its safety has not been substantiated.
The law provides severe penalties for products that do not meet these standards.
5. Do all cosmetic manufacturers include ingredient labels on their products?
Yes. Proper labeling is an important aspect of marketing a cosmetic or personal care product. 6. What should I keep in mind to care for dry skin?
Dry skin has particularly low sebaceous gland activity and consequently reduced oil production. Moisture regulation is also impaired. Dry skin is usually hereditary and is often associated with flaking, itching, feelings of tautness and burning. In addition to increasing age, this skin condition is aggravated by a dry, low-moisture climate, a lack of fluid intake and heavy perspiration. Skin dehydration is also exacerbated by unsuitable cleansing products for the skin type as well as sun damage and extreme weather conditions. The optimal treatment for dry skin should restore the skin’s moisture and protect the skin with valuable lipids. To stabilize the skin’s barrier, gentle cleansing products are ideally suited that do not dry out the skin and which provide intense hydrating care that continuously moisturize the skin. Dry skin also needs a treatment that stabilizes the skin’s barrier and provides lasting protection, in order to improve elasticity and wellbeing, restoring freshness to the complexion.
7. What do I need to bear in mind with care for mature skin?
Mature skin is subject to two causes of skin aging: Intrinsic, chronological aging and extrinsic, environmental aging. Both result in visible signs of aging like reduced radiance and moisture, wrinkles, slackness and pigment imbalances. Mature skin is highly sensitive and dries out quickly. Sweat secretion, the skin’s moisture balance and lipids reduce with age. The skin’s ability to adapt to increasing environmental challenges and stresses deteriorates. To prevent and correct for the visible signs of mature skin, active ingredients are recommended that exfoliate, reduce unevenness and stimulate the skin’s collagen production, for instance. High-quality, natural oils and rich intense moisture treatments are recommended. The skin should be prevented from drying out, and aggressive cleansing products and the excessive use of hot water should be avoided. Treatments that primarily give the skin lipids and moisturizing factors, increasing the water retention capacity of the corneal layer are recommended. Highly concentrated active serums, oils and special care products that counteract free radicals, regenerate the skin overnight and protect against environmental effects during the day are essential for well-kept, youthful radiance.
8. What is especially important when it comes to caring for sensitive skin?
Sensitive skin can be inherited or acquired. Sensitive skin can react to certain products and environmental influences. Various trigger factors like allergens, preservatives or fragrances, aggressive surfactants and certain ingredients can cause rashes, dryness or sensitivity. The optimal treatment for sensitive skin should contain gentle and protective ingredients that soothe the skin and improve wellbeing. Aggressive cleansing products and surfactants, alcohol and the use of too much water should be avoided. It is also recommended to abstain from mechanical peeling treatments and intense professional skin treatments.
9. Which skin type is the Natural Moisture range suited to?
The products in the Natural Moisture range intensely moisturize the skin and protect it against dryness. They lastingly restore the skin’s natural balance and are specially suited for normal to dry skin. Intensive Moisturizing Fluid is ideal for the targeted care of mixed skin and sensitive skin.
10. What is the difference between the Intensive Moisturizing Cream and Intensive Moisturizing Fluid? When should I ideally use which product?
The difference between the two products lies in the consistency. The Intensive Moisturizing Fluid nourishes the skin with a light consistency and provides plenty of moisture. It offers care without feeling heavy or greasy, and is particularly recommended for young and normal skin as well as mixed skin and sensitive skin. The light fluid is especially popular for warmer temperatures and is also used by men. The Intensive Moisturizing Cream nourishes normal to dry skin with its richer, creamier consistency, and has a deep moisturizing effect. Anyone who finds the Intensive Moisturizing Fluid too mild, can enjoy the optimal care and protection provided throughout the day by the Intensive Moisturizing Cream. It is also suitable for boosting the care provided by the Intensive Moisturizing Fluid during the cold winter season.
