Dhakai Jamdani is a type of fine cotton muslin fabric, known for its intricate weaving technique and exquisite designs. Originating from Dhaka, Bangladesh, it has a long history dating back to the Mughal era. However, it is now also produced in West Bengal, India. The term "Jamdani" comes from the Persian word "Jam" meaning flower and "Dani" meaning vase, referring to the floral motifs that are a prominent feature in these sarees. It is a labor-intensive traditional handloom weaving technique, where the patterns are created by interweaving different colored cotton threads in the weft.
